Surgeon Insights

Dr. Amy Spencer, MD FACS

Medical Director of Corewell Health Regional Burn Center

Dr. Spencer discusses her experience with the Amalgatome SD (ASD) including halving OR times and fewer OR trips for debridement.  She also shares the ASD's ability to graft larger areas at a time, allowing more access to donor sites, shorter patient length of stay, and better debridement quality with improved contouring.

Dr. Steven Kahn, MD

Chief of Burn Surgery at the medical university of South Carolina

Dr. Kahn shares insights on the Amalgatome SD.  Benefits of the device include:  decreased OR time, increasing control during excision and increased safety compared to traditional devices.  Dr. Kahn demonstrates changing depth while excising and shares that he has excised half of a torso in under three minutes.  Additionally he explains the reduced risk of over excising and his confidence in the safety of the device in the hands of interns and residents.

Dr. Alisa Savetamal, MD, FACS

Director of the Connecticut Burn Center

Dr. Savetamal shares some surgical highlights of using the ASD including, safety, predictability, ease of use, and confidence in training all users including residents.

Dr. John A. Griswold, MD, FACS

Medical Director of Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

Dr. Griswold shares his experience using the Amalgatome SD, explaining how it's been a game changer and he would be shocked if a surgeon would ever go back to other types of dermatomes.

Dr. Jake Laun, MD

Surgeon at the University of South Florida

Dr. Laun shares his opinion on the top highlights of the Amalgatome SD. Including no concern for lacerations unlike the dermatome, less blood loss during operation, and a better overall graft appearance.
